Making memes, meme making

In the past, Brenna and Brian have done workshops where they share their thoughts and guided the creation of online memes and animated GIFs. This time, they will be learning alongside as for the first time we take meme making into the TRU Makerspace.

Let’s make them!

In the past, we’ve spent some time during meme workshops on the background and cultural history of the forms. And also discussed animated GIFs.

Today, since we want to get our hands on things, we will go straight to making some simple visuals quickly.

Classic memes: the Meme Generator from Imgflp is a handy tool.

There are also a wave of new generative AI visual creation tools that can be fun to use. You are welcome to use your favourite, or you can ask Brian to run your suggested prompt through Midjourney.

Once you have your visual, there are a range of tools at the Makerspace you might try out. We think the Button Maker or the Cricut are promising, but maybe you have ideas!
